چکیده

A PIC17C44 microcontroller development board and a real-time algorithm were developed with the capability of monitoring the fetal heart rate (FHR) as well as recording both the FHR and maternal heart rate for long-term. This paper describes the development of the microcontroller board and implementation of a real-time algorithm which were used to develop the portable recorder. Two set-up were developed. One setup was used to implement the algorithm in the PIC17C44 microcontroller board. Second set-up was developed for the assessment of the reliability of processed heart rates. A large number of clinical tests have shown the very good performance of the developed monitor in comparison with FHR curves simultaneously recorded with IFM-500 Doppler ultrasound fetal monitor. Statistical comparison was done and showed nonsignificant difference in mean ðp 1⁄4 0:05Þ; correlation coefficient ðr 1⁄4 0:8–0:92Þ and low PRD (5–15). q 2002 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.

Fetal electrocardiography: feasibility of long-term fetal heart rate recordings.

The feasibility and accuracy of long-term transabdominal fetal electrocardiogram (fECG) recordings throughout pregnancy were studied using a portable fECG monitor. Fifteen-hour recordings of fetal heart rate (FHR) were performed in 150 pregnant women at 20-40 weeks of gestation and 1-hour recordings were performed in 22 women in labour and compared with simultaneous scalp electrode recordings. ...

The accuracy of ultrasonic fetal cardiography.

The present work investigated the accuracy of ultrasound cardiography (uFCG) in registering the fetal heart rate variability. Five patients in early labour were studied. Two cardiotocographs (HP 8030A) were simultaneously recording uFCG and direct fetal electrocardiography (dFECG). The information was stored in an analogue FM tape recorder for further data processing. The number of beats regist...

Intermittent auscultation for intrapartum fetal heart rate surveillance.

Fetal heart rate surveillance is a standard component of intrapartum care. The fetal heart rate can be evaluated using intermittent auscultation or electronic fetal monitoring. Research that has compared these 2 strategies found them to be equivalent with respect to long-term neonatal outcomes. The purpose of this clinical bulletin by the American College of Nurse-Midwives is to review the evid...

A PCA/ICA based Fetal ECG Extraction from Mother Abdominal Recordings by Means of a Novel Data-driven Approach to Fetal ECG Quality Assessment

Background: Fetal electrocardiography is a developing field that provides valuable information on the fetal health during pregnancy. By early diagnosis and treatment of fetal heart problems, more survival chance is given to the infant. Objective: Here, we extract fetal ECG from maternal abdominal recordings and detect R-peaks in order to recognize fetal heart rate. On the next step, we find a be...

Commentary: Enhanced Monitoring of the Preterm Infant during Stabilization in the Delivery Room

Finn et al. present an excellent summary of current and emerging methods by which to monitor preterm infants during stabilization in the delivery room, but I disagree with their characterization of the usefulness of Doppler ultrasound, and they fail to comment on the impact of delayed cord clamping on heart rate in the first minutes of postnatal life. Furthermore, I believe recent work using El...
